In the background of
events, our humanity is shocked by hate, terrorism, by the thrilling desire to destroy everything, to revenge. We have touched the end of insecurity, we have in our eye the demolishing force of the bad that is destroying us: I think of Palestine, Bethlehem, the many ethnic wars in the world, 11th of September, New York and Washington, Afghanistan; but Pope ensues us: the bad does not have the final say in the human events and God knows how to bring out good fruits even from a dry land. Which is the way leading to the complete restoration of moral and social order which has been so barbarously violated?
only when justice and forgiveness unite.
NEED OF FORGIVENESS
Before being a social phenomenon, it is a personal act. Forgiveness has the seat in every ones heart. It is a human act: everyone errs and likes the forgiveness. Forgiveness is before all a selection of the heart, which goes counter to the spontaneous instinct to retaliate the bad with the bad. The roots of this selection are in God, in Christ nailed on the Cross. So, forgiveness has a divine measure and root. Forgiveness may seem weakness. In fact, for the one forgiving, and for the one who accepts the forgiveness, it supposes a great spiritual force and a moral courage with all the tests.
